Add images to a post
Add up to 10 images to a post from four different sources in the Create Post dialog. They collect in one tray, in the order you pick them, and that’s the order used when the post publishes.
Before you start
You need the Create Post dialog open. See Create your first posts with AI or Write a post yourself to get there.
Steps
- Under Image, choose a source: Select from stock, Generate with AI, Upload, or Media library. Selecting a source opens it. Selecting the same one again closes it.
- Pick an image. It’s added to the tray, labeled Added (N), with a small badge showing where it came from (Stock, AI, Upload, or Library).
- Repeat with any of the four sources to add more images. You can mix sources freely, for example one stock photo and one AI-generated image in the same tray.
- To remove a single image, select the × in its top-right corner. This doesn’t affect the other images in the tray.
- To reorder images, remove and re-add them in the order you want. The dialog has no drag-to-reorder. Images publish in the order you added them.
- When the tray reaches 10 images, the source buttons grey out and a note appears: “That’s the maximum of 10 images. Remove one to add another.” Remove an image to make room for a new one.
Text-only posts
You can leave the tray empty and publish a text-only post, except on Instagram, which requires media. If you select Instagram with an empty tray, this note appears: “Instagram requires an image or video — its post can’t publish until you add one here or on the post’s page.” You can still generate or create the post with the warning showing. Add an image before it publishes, either here or later on the post’s page.
Platform image limits
Each platform only uses up to a certain number of images from your tray. Twitter/X uses at most 4. Other platforms allow more. If your tray holds more images than a selected platform supports, a note tells you which platforms will be affected, for example: “Twitter/X will use the first 4.” If more than one selected platform is over its limit, they’re listed together, separated by semicolons, with a single period at the end, for example: “Twitter/X will use the first 4; Instagram will use the first 10.” The rest of the images stay in the tray and are used by platforms that support more, but are dropped for that platform’s post.
Uploading your own images
Select Upload, then drop image files onto the dropzone or select browse to choose them from your computer. You can upload more than one file at a time. This dialog doesn’t check the file type or size before uploading. It accepts JPG, PNG, GIF, or WebP images, and whatever the server rejects fails with the error message described below.
Changing images later
Images aren’t locked in once the post is created. Open the post from the Content page to add, remove, or replace images before it publishes. See Edit a post before it publishes.
If something goes wrong
“That’s the maximum of 10 images. Remove one to add another.”: Your tray already holds 10 images, the most a post allows. Remove one to add a different one.
“{N} pick(s) weren’t added — the tray is full.”: You tried to add more images than would fit in the remaining space (for example, picking 5 stock photos when only 3 slots were left). The ones that fit were added. The rest weren’t. When this happens with stock photos, the message adds: “They were still imported to your library.” You can still find and use them later from Media library.
“{Platform} will use the first {N}.” (for example, “Twitter/X will use the first 4.”): You selected a platform whose image limit is lower than the number of images in your tray. That platform’s post only uses the first images in tray order, up to its limit. The platform still publishes, with fewer images.
“Instagram requires an image or video — its post can’t publish until you add one here or on the post’s page.”: You selected Instagram with no images in the tray. You can create the post anyway, but add an image before it publishes.
