Edit a post before it publishes

Change a post’s text, hashtags, or sign-off any time before it publishes, whether it’s still Pending or already Approved.

Before you start

The post must not be posted yet. Once a post publishes, its content is locked and none of the editing controls on this page are available for it. See Posted content is locked, below.

Steps

  1. Open Content in the sidebar, then open the post you want to edit. This takes you to the post’s page, where every platform version of the post lives together.
  2. Select the tab for the platform version you want to edit. Each tab shows that platform’s icon, a status badge, and, if that platform isn’t connected, an amber dot warning that the post can’t publish until you reconnect it.
  3. Edit the text in the editor. It supports Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, bullet and numbered lists, and links. Use the toolbar above the text, or select # to insert a hashtag character at your cursor.
  4. Select Save. The button is disabled until you’ve actually changed something.
  5. If your brand has compliance review turned on, saving automatically re-runs the compliance analysis against your new text. You don’t need to select Analyze yourself afterward. See Run a compliance check before approving.

Hashtags

Hashtags you added when the post was created appear as chips below the editor, labeled “Hashtags (added to the end of your post):”. Select the × on a chip to remove it. This takes effect immediately, with no confirmation and no separate Save step.

Sign-off

If your brand has a sign-off configured, it appears in a row below the hashtags. From here you can:

  • Select the × next to the sign-off text to remove it from this post only. This takes effect immediately.
  • After removing it, select Restore sign-off to put your brand’s sign-off back on this post.

Both actions apply right away. Neither asks you to confirm first.

Character counter and live preview

Below the editor, a counter shows your current character count against the limit for this platform version, for example 142 / 280 characters. The bar and text turn red once you go over the limit. For Twitter/X, any web link in your text counts as 23 characters against the limit, no matter how long the actual link is. The count includes your sign-off and hashtags as well as the text you typed.

The counter turning red is a warning only. Save isn’t blocked by going over the limit. The platform itself may truncate or reject the post at publish time, so bring your text back under the limit before you rely on it publishing as written.

Next to the editor, a live preview shows roughly how the post will look on that platform, updating as you type.

Original vs. Edited

Some parts of the app open a post on the narrower Post Detail screen instead of the post’s page. There, selecting Edit opens a modal with your AI-generated Original text on the left, read-only, and an Edited field on the right where you make changes. Editing never overwrites the original. The app keeps both, so you can always see what changed. Select Save Changes to keep your edit, or Cancel to discard it.

Version History and Revert

If a post has any saved history, a History button appears among the post’s actions. Selecting it opens a list of earlier versions, each with its timestamp and the source of that version (for example, when it was generated or when it was added as a new platform).

On Post Detail, select Restore on any earlier version to bring it back into the editor. You’ll see a confirmation first: “Restore this version? Your current edits will be overwritten.” Confirm to load that version. You’ll see “Version restored”, or “Restore failed” if it didn’t work.

On the post’s page, the equivalent button is Revert. It has no confirmation and no success or failure message. Selecting it loads the old content straight into the editor. Nothing is saved until you select Save yourself.

Neither Save nor Restore/Revert adds a new entry to the post’s version history. History entries are written only when the post is created or a platform version is added. Version history is a record of those moments, not a complete trail of every edit you’ve made.

Posted content is locked

Once a post publishes, all of the controls above disappear for that platform version: no editor, no hashtag removal, no sign-off controls, no History revert. In their place you’ll see:

“Posted content is locked — the published record can’t be edited.”

This is by design: the published record has to match what actually went out. Approved posts that haven’t published yet stay fully editable. Only posted locks them.

Add a platform version

If a platform is connected but this post doesn’t have a version for it yet, select + Add channel next to the platform tabs and choose the platform from the list. This adds a new draft platform version. It doesn’t publish anything on its own. You’ll see: “Draft added — review and approve it to include this channel.” If the post already has a version for that platform, adding it again fails with “Group already has a {platform} post.”
