Generate images with AI

Generate image options for a post from a text description. You can do this while creating a post, or later from the post’s page. Both open the same Generate Image with AI window and produce 4 options at once.

Before you start

You need either the Create Post dialog open with Generate with AI chosen as the image source, or a post open on its page. On the post’s page, select Generate with AI (shown as or generate with AI if the post already has an image) wherever you’d add an image: under the shared image for the whole post, or under a single platform’s tab to replace only that platform’s image.

Steps

  1. Open Generate with AI. If you already typed what the post is about (in What’s this post about in the Create Post dialog, or the post’s own content on its page), a Suggested: prompt appears as a button below the prompt field.
  2. Select the suggested prompt to use it as-is, or type your own description in Image Prompt.
  3. If your brand has brand colors set up, a Brand colors: On toggle appears under the prompt field. Leave it on to steer the generated images toward your brand’s colors, or select it to turn it off.
  4. Select Generate. A grid of 4 placeholder tiles appears, each showing a spinner and “Generating…”, and fills in with your results once the whole batch finishes.
  5. Select an image to preview it full-size. Its window shows a ← Back to grid link to see the other options.
  6. Select Use This Image to attach it to the post. The window closes and the image is added.

If some images fail

Not all 4 images always generate successfully. If at least one succeeds, the window shows the ones that worked and a note below them: “{N} of 4 images failed to generate”. You can still preview and use any of the successful images. If none succeed, the window shows the error message instead.

You’re only charged for the images that succeed against your monthly image generation quota. A failed image doesn’t use up any of your allowance. One catch: requesting a batch checks your quota against the full 4 images up front, so you can be blocked from generating at all if you’re close enough to your limit that 4 more would exceed it, even though fewer than 4 might have actually counted.

If something goes wrong

“{N} of 4 images failed to generate”: Some, but not all, of the 4 requested images generated successfully. Use one of the images that did generate, or select Generate again.

“You’ve hit your plan limit”: You’ve used your plan’s monthly allowance of image generations. The message shows how many you’ve used out of your limit. Select Upgrade your plan to raise it, or Maybe later to close the message and continue without generating.

“{error} — your posts are saved; you can try again or add an image later from the post page.” The image generated, but attaching it to the post failed. The rest of your post is unaffected and nothing is lost. Try selecting Use This Image again, or close the window and add an image later from the post’s page.
