Edit an image

Crop, adjust, filter, and brand any image in your media library without leaving the app, then save your changes as a new image or replace the original.

Before you start

You need an image already in your media library. Only images can be edited. Video and other file types don’t show an edit option. See Upload and manage your media if you haven’t added one yet.

Steps

On the Media page, find the image you want to edit.
Select Edit on the image’s tile, or open the image first and select Edit in the preview. Either one opens the image editor.
Make your changes with the tools on the side toolbar: Crop, Adjust, Filters, and the brand overlay tool. Each tool opens its own settings panel.
When you’re done, select Save in the header to open the save and export options, described below.

Crop

Open the crop tool to trim or reframe the image.

Choose a preset to lock the crop to a common social aspect ratio: Free, Square 1:1, Portrait 4:5, Story 9:16, Wide 16:9, or Link 1.91:1.
Drag the frame or its handles in the viewport to adjust the crop. Presets keep the ratio locked while you drag.
Select Rotate 90° to rotate the image a quarter turn, or Flip H / Flip V to mirror it horizontally or vertically.
Select Remove crop to clear the crop and use the full image again.

Adjustments

Open the Adjust tool for sliders covering Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Exposure, Warmth, and Sharpness. Drag a slider to preview the change live. Double-click a slider to reset only that value. Select Reset all to clear every adjustment at once.

Filters

Open the Filters tool to apply a one-tap look: None, B&W, B&W+, Warm, Cool, Fade, or Punch. Each swatch shows a live preview against your current crop and adjustments. After picking a filter, use the Intensity slider to blend it in anywhere from 0% to 100%.

Brand overlay

Open the brand overlay tool to add your logo, your sign-off text, or both, using one of four templates: Corner logo, Logo + handle, Caption pill, or Top badge. Selecting a template applies it immediately.

Drag a layer in the viewport to reposition it.
Use each layer’s Opacity slider to fade it in or out, and the Visible checkbox to hide it without removing it.
For a text layer, edit the text field to override the default text for this image only.
Select Remove branding to take the overlay off entirely.

Layer position and opacity are yours to change, but each template’s styling (fonts, colors, layout) is fixed.

If your brand has no logo saved, logo layers are skipped when you export or save. You’ll see a note: “This brand has no logo, so logo layers are skipped on export. Add one on the Brands page.”

Save your changes

Select Save to open the Save or export dialog, then choose one of two save modes:

Save as a new image: keeps the original untouched and creates a separate copy in your library. The new copy stays re-editable, so you can reopen it later and adjust it further.
Replace this image: overwrites the original. Any post already using this image will show the edited version once you save.

Both modes use the Size and format settings described in Export below. Select Save to library to finish.

Export

The same dialog also lets you take a copy without saving it to your library:

Download saves the edited image as a file on your device.
Copy to clipboard copies it as a PNG so you can paste it elsewhere. This option only appears if your browser supports copying images.

Both use the Size dropdown to pick a target size: Original size, Instagram Square 1080×1080, Instagram Portrait 1080×1350, Story/Reel 1080×1920, or X Landscape 1600×900. Choose JPEG or PNG, and for JPEG, drag the Quality slider to trade off file size against image quality. The estimated file size updates as you change these settings.

If the size you pick doesn’t match your current crop’s aspect ratio, a warning appears: “Aspect differs — the export will be center-cropped. Tip: use the matching crop preset.” The export will fill the target size by cropping the center of your image. To avoid the crop, go back to the Crop tool and choose the preset that matches the size you want to export.

Leaving without saving

If you have unsaved edits and try to go ← Back, you’re asked to confirm: “Discard unsaved edits?” Select Cancel on that prompt to keep editing, or confirm to leave and lose your changes. An unsaved badge next to the image name in the header shows whenever you have changes that haven’t been saved.

Re-editing a saved copy

When you reopen an image you previously edited and saved as new, your edits start fresh from the original image, not layered on top of your previous edit. If that original image is no longer available, you’ll see a notice: “Original image unavailable — editing the flattened copy.” and the editor opens on the saved copy’s own pixels instead.

If something goes wrong

“Only images can be edited.” You tried to open the editor for a video or another non-image file. Editing is only available for images.

“Media not found.” The image couldn’t be loaded, for example if it was deleted. Go back to the media library and try again from there.

“Could not load the image.” The image file itself failed to load after the editor opened. Go back and try opening it again.

“Save failed”: Saving to your library didn’t complete. Try again. If it keeps happening, check your connection.

“Export failed”: The Download didn’t complete. Try again.

“Copy failed”: Copy to clipboard didn’t complete. Try Download instead, or try again.
