Reactivate an expired or rejected post

An expired or rejected post isn’t gone. Reactivate it to send it back to Pending, where you can review it and approve it like any other post.

Why posts expire

A post expires when it reaches its scheduled time without being approved. It missed its publication, so instead of going out late it moves to Expired and shows Expired — missed its scheduled time. This is a safety measure. It stops a post written for one moment from quietly going out at another without a fresh look.

That’s the only way a post expires. A pending post with no scheduled time sits and waits for your decision however long that takes. To avoid the expiry entirely, approve a scheduled post before its scheduled time arrives.

Where to find expired and rejected posts

  • On the Content page, use the Status filter and choose Expired or Rejected to list only those posts.
  • On the History page, use the Status filter and choose Expired or Rejected. History only shows posts that have reached a final state, so this is also where posts land once they expire or get rejected.

Steps

You can reactivate a post from any of these places:

  1. From the Content or History row menu: on the Content page, select the menu at the end of the row and choose Reactivate. On the History page, an expired row shows a Reactivate button directly in the row (no menu needed).
  2. From the post’s page: open the post from either page, then select Reactivate near the top of the post. If the post has more than one platform version and at least one is expired or rejected, this reactivates every expired or rejected version in the post at once.
  3. From the History outcome drawer: select a row on the History page to open the Post outcome drawer, then select Reactivate inside it. This option only appears for expired posts, not rejected ones. For a rejected post, use the row menu or the post’s page instead.

After a successful reactivation you’ll see a toast: “Post moved back to the queue” on the History row action, or “Reactivated” everywhere else (Content row menu, the post’s page).

What reactivating does

  • The post’s status changes back to Pending, so it needs a fresh approval or rejection decision.
  • A reactivated post can sit in Pending as long as you need. Nothing expires it for waiting. If its scheduled time had already passed, that time is cleared when you reactivate — the post comes back unscheduled, ready for a new time, rather than expiring again for missing the old one.
  • If any media attached to the post had been archived while it sat expired or rejected, reactivating restores that media automatically so the post isn’t missing images when you review it again.

If something goes wrong

“Failed to reactivate”: shown from the post’s page or the History outcome drawer if reactivating couldn’t complete. Try again.

“Action failed”: shown from the Content page’s row menu if reactivating (or another row menu action) couldn’t complete. Try again.
